22 October 2019, Singapore - At the TAUS Asia Conference in Singapore this week, Interpreter IO has won the TAUS Game Changer Innovation Award 2019. Each year, TAUS invites those with a passion for innovation to take part in the TAUS Game Changer Innovation Contest to take the stage and wow the audience with their ideas or products. This acclaimed contest celebrates the best innovative solutions in the translation industry and is known for bringing strong publicity to its winners. This edition was specifically aimed at the many innovations taking place in the eastern part of the world.
With their presentation (and demonstration) of Interpreter IO, CEO Adam Hodgson won the most votes from the audience and took home the unique piece of TAUS artwork. Commenting on winning the award, Adam says: “The team at Interpreter IO are humbled and honored to win TAUS Game Changer Innovation Award in Asia with such outstanding competition. Our ‘AI AI’ (AI assisted interpreting) builds on the existing Interpreter IO cloud-based interpreter management platform. The platform is used by hospitals, courts, government departments and LSPs who need to manage interpreters. AI-assisted interpreting is still in its infancy but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Clients and interpreters reap the benefits of leveraging the massive investments in language processing and AI by the world’s leading technology companies. Our demonstration used Microsoft’s (MSFT) language engine, but clients may also request Amazon (AMZN), Alibaba (BABA), Google (GOOG) or other regional Asian and European language engines. The Interpreter IO team would like to dedicate this award to the skilled interpreters who make such a positive difference in the world every day. We love your work and we thank you.”
Among the contestants this year were well-known players of the language industry such as NICT, Xillio, TransN, Autodesk, ModernMT. The runner-up this year was Professor Benjamin Tsou from the City University of Hong Kong who presented Patentlex, and the third place was Guoqing (Allen) Yan from GTCOM who demonstrated their newest technology JoveTrans MIX. “Over the past 5 years, TAUS Game Changer Innovators have clearly raised the bar for others to follow. Previous winners have been able to raise serious investments to advance their business. With only one vote difference between the winner and the runner-up, it was clear that the competition gets more fierce every time,” says Anne-Maj van der Meer, TAUS Events Director.
“As interpretation is the fastest growing segment in the language services industry, it is rewarding to see an innovative technology in this space recognized by this expert audience,” says Renato Beninatto CEO and Co-founder of Nimdzi Insights and this year’s host of the contest.
The TAUS Team congratulates Adam Hodgson and the Interpeter IO team and is looking forward to seeing how their technology will develop in the future. We also like to thank all the participants this year for their courage to present their innovations in the contest.
